Richard and maybe others,

I think they want the Crystal as the driver so that they have various users
in many locations. It seems that is easier for the work flow process.

Is Crystal Reports able to kick off an I job?

Do the same thing you did in your SQL Server shop. Create XML output and
then use the XML for the reporting.

You can have an i process to create the XML and then run the Crystal
report.

subject: Field selection for users Iseries Data

HI I wanted to get some opinions from you guys. We have a request to
create a front end with Crystal Reports. The idea is that the user will
select which fields they want to see
and then pass these to the Crystal Report. The data resides on the
Iseries. I see so far that time to run the CR is pretty slow because they
are doing alot of the processing on Crystal (using the Report Record
Selection) but I want to create Logical files for this purpose.
?
But I wanted to get some feedback on how you may have done this in the
past. Does it work out well for the users that? they select fields ? I can
think of one problem that the business rules and logic are not involved per
se, unless you code for that. I would like to hear if you have been
successful to implement this type of solution. I should note that i have
gotten this same type of request in my other job, a sql server shop where
we are going to create an XML file for the user.
?
Thank you,
Paul
