I'm guessing you didn't do enough programming on Windows :-)
In either case the 90's programming and today are totally different even for RPG with all the forward leaps we've made.
Interfaces/APIs chosen a few years ago are just as viable today. There just seems to be a plethora of new techniques. We agree on that point.

FUD?? No.? Personal experience?? Yes.
I spend most of the 90's developing under Windows, and have tried to keep up with their paradigm shifts, but it's practically impossible. You can return to the MSDN library every few years and see the content completely refreshed. Huge paradigm shifts in components, programming interfaces, terminology. While much backward compatibility may be maintained, the interfaces you chose a few years ago are out-dated today. The cycle seems to go on and on and on.
