As to major customers most of them are just people that want their servers to run with little assistance very reliably. So you'll find them in banking, health care, transportation, manufacturing etc. You know places that aren't very important. :-)

IBM doesn't release customer quantities but partly that's because they simply don't know. The system has been around for 25 years and there are a large number of VERY old machines out there still humming away despite no support for many years.
