Yes, its an initialize system the way he's doing it complete with adding
disks. That
seems to be the longest part.

In the test run with my build it only took 2 1/2 hours to restore. I've
been used to 10 to 12 hour installs..
The vendor issue has to do with home grown vs canned. It just seemed
easier, although
more expensive with the EB34 to go 6.1.1. Not looking back on that, it's
done for now.

I like the custom lic idea. Although putting the PTF's on the power 7
only took about 30 min.

Well, certain vendors (like Pete) would not only put on respin K but would

be doing so with a custom lic that already has PTF's installed.

Doing what you did, initializing disks beforehand, sounds like a great
timesaver. Hopefully what your vendor does doesn't lose that time savings

and requires a reinitialize.

I didn't have enough information about your model, but looking at
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssm1platformibmi
there doesn't seem to be any model which requires 7.1 over 6.1.1.

I might have dumped your software vendor for not getting to 7.1 after a
few years availability. I dumped a few vendors because they took too long

to get to 6.1. Too long for me is just a few months after GA.
