Ok, Once I've created my image catalog on my remote machines I leave them
there. For all eternity. I have standard names like V7R1 (ok, that name
may change...), CUME, GROUP, MISC, etc. What changes are the image
catalog entries. I FTP mine around. People like Jim, Larry and Pete may
not even do that, but instead rely more on newer capabilities of the OS. I
just like mine physically there because when I need them on the other
machine the first machine may no longer be available. Once you ftp them
over there you call the fill image catalog api at
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v7r1m0/topic/apis/qvoifimg.htm

Even with the multiple steps you did, saving to a save file brought
nothing to the picnic. It didn't allow you to combine objects or
anything. A complete waste of disk space and time. Before you say it
allowed you to restore to a different name, ftp will allow you to do that
put oldname newname
but I've not found a reason to rename the image catalog entries I've done.
