Thanks for the tip Rob. Never would want to scam IBM since they have saved me many times. Actually this is a new drive which was not used for a long time so it was installed with a problem. I found out it wasn't on maintenance when I called in for service. Just want to make things right.

Hey Becky, does IBM read this list? I'd be careful about announcing
you're trying to scam IBM on a public list.

I'd forgotten to mention that we had a drive that was going bad also.
Since the backup could use different drives it would randomly hit the bad
one. What was really fun was that multiple lpars went through the SAN and
into the bank of drives on the tape library. You know, when you do a
WRKMLBSTS and you see multiple drives for that one media library? Well,
to help track this down I ensured that all lpars had the same drive name,
tied to the same resource name, tied to the same serial number. Took
going into STRSST and renaming resource names to get them all synced up.
But then I was able to find the drive issue. Using that web interface
into the library helped a bit to track down errors. We even configured
the library to send us email notifications of issues. We did not
configure it for SNMP traps.

Thanks for the info Paul.

I know I have an LTO drive going bad, but it is okay for short saves.
Waiting to get it on maintenance before calling IBM. I discovered the
savsys used this drive which caused the process to run longer than normal.
I still think based on other emails that I can improve the savsys
performance.

In the past my savsys was consistently 90 minutes which is still too long.
The time never changed after an IPL until now. The savsys ran from 2:19

I am going to check to see if I have a tape drive issue next. Does anyone
else save the IBM items in the ifs? In the past I would save *LNK, but
found that took way too long so I contacted IBM and they suggested this:

Becky,

Your first save after an IPL will be longer than normal, per IBM document.
Once every object is touched 1st time, save will be quicker.

I IPL'ed and applied PTFs this weekend. I ran a SAVSYS plus other IBM
items and it took 1 hour 50 minutes. Is there anything I can check to
clean up? I am using an LTO 4. Other systems take less than 1 hour for
this process, but this is the largest system. Here is the BRMS control
