21 is NLS support. I don't use it, but I can understand.

7 is example tools library. I have one lpar out of 11 that I do
development on. Why would I want the example tools library on the rest?

I think I put 5799PTL because of some Domino requirement. But I don't see
it listed at
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=463&uid=swg27013079
Perhaps it was back when I was using LEI. It also used to be used for
whiteboard support in Sametime, but that no longer requires it.
It is still alive and kicking. Ever hear of an iPad? Scan the following
for PTL:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/ibmi/library/i-access_client_solutions/i-access_client_solutions-pdf.pdf
I've not tried this.

Where is a link on what version of Director I should be using?

Yes, the highly recommended software may be out of budget for many shops.
And the Network support of BRMS is overkill for a single lpar shop. But I
do recommend they take a look of, at least, the base part of BRMS.

Look at this:
WRKOBJBRM OBJ(ERPLXF/IIM) FROMSYS(*LCL)
Save Save
Object Library Type Date Time Volume
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 6/06/12 20:04:20 BR0244
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 9/06/12 6:24:55 BR0032
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 12/05/12 20:45:13 BR0017
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 2/18/13 17:38:35 BR0006
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 2/25/13 17:38:34 BR0058
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 3/04/13 17:38:45 BR0049
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 3/06/13 17:13:58 BR0001
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 3/11/13 17:38:44 BR0016
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 3/12/13 17:38:34 BR0009
IIM ERPLXF *FILE 3/14/13 17:37:34 BR0012
more...

Now, if I want to restore my bpcs item master from 3/11/13, what tape id
is that on? BR0016. Where is that tape? Use option 6.
Volume Creation Expiration Move
Serial Status Date Date Location Date

BR0016 + *ACT 03/11/13 04/15/13 IRONMTN 03/12/13

Now, let's go back to the WRKOBJBRM command. See that FROMSYS(*LCL)? Now,
if I have the Network feature installed, and my production lpar goes
casters up I can run that WRKOBJBRM command on another system and still
know what tape(s) to pull.
