If the full outer join returns the example you want, but only needs to be
ordered, just try the following:
Select *
FROM tableA FULL OUTER JOIN tableB ON table1.name=table2.name
Order By Coalesce(Table1.Name, Table2.Name)

Betreff: Use SQL to compare 2 files And Get The Order Right?
Hi
I have 2 tables, TableA and TableB which have the same columns.
Some of the rows are duplicates in both tables.
Some of the rows in TableA are not in TableB.
Some of the rows in TableB are not in TableA.
Using FULL OUTER JOIN, I can create a view that has every row of TableA and
TableB.
Returning the rows in the correct is stumping me.
Here's a very simple example of my problem:
Assume Table A has two records:
record 1 = "Chris"
record 2 = "Dave"
record 3 = "Theresa"
Assume TableB has 2 records:
record 1 = "Dave"
record 2 = "Sam"
Select * FROM tableA FULL OUTER JOIN tableB ON table1.name=table2.name
Result is:
==========
Chris null
Dave Dave
Theresa null
null Sam
Theresa shouldn't come before Sam.
What I need is:
=============
Chris null
Dave Dave
null Sam
Theresa null
I tried all sorts of other ways. I used UNION, order by, UNION ALL, but I
can't get the order correct. Can anyone make a good suggestion?
Thank you
