I haven't been involved as of yet for the upgrade other than a question
here and there.
Over the year, I know if the processor group is the same or lower there
is no increase in SWMA charges. That is one of the main questions we
had.

Are the two systems at the same tier? ie both P30's processor groups?
And are you talking about IBM software or third party. Is the serial
number staying the same? Some third party software you have to purchase
for the new system other charge a nominal fee for the new license key,
and other are no charge. If the Processor group stays the same or goes
down, there should be no charges for the IBM licensed software.

Subject: Upgrade Question

Hello all,

We are looking upgrading our IBM i from a 550 to a Power 7 740. We are
getting conflicting answers. One BP said that we would incur spending
more for the software with the upgrade. A second BP said that there
should no increase for the software.
What is the correct answer?
