It's most likely a funding problem to keep the updates rolling out. IBM i market penetration keeps going down from everything I've seen.
The Power hardware is pretty slick, but I think people who don't have lots of legacy application baggage are more apt to use a version of Linux / Unix on the power platform rather than iSeries for a whole host of reasons such as:
1. Much broader vendor / third party product support
2. Larger user base on Linux/Unix than IBM I, and therefore easier to find skilled workers
3. The OS is free (depending on your Unix variant)
4. Boat loads of open source / free software
IBM themselves chose Linux over IBM i when building Watson presumably because of the more advanced software available on Linux for which Watson is based (Apache Hadoop and UIMA)

Thank you. It's the Golden Rule thing: Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. When IBM launches rNext I'm sure they'd like all the players to have participated in the beta program and be ready on GA date. W8 had an extensive beta program. IBM should have been on that like stink.

I've submitted DCR's clamoring for support for W8 for IBM i Access for
Windows. This crap of waiting until the OS is so obsolete it's been
replaced has to stop.

If it's Windows RT, then "no" as it's not x86/x64-based.
If it's Windows 8, then "yes" since it's Windows 8. Tablet is just the
formfactor. You linked to a Surface Pro, which runs real Windows 8. Once
IBM supports Access on Wn8 it will work.
