There is a way to read each tape into BRMS. We looked at this for old
archive tapes, but decided not to pursue this. Very time consuming. This
is in case you want the detail available with WRKOBJBRM.
Now, if all you are looking for is the information shown on WRKMEDBRM to
know the current location of each of your tapes I suppose you could create
all the devices and locations. In our case this may be: TAPGRT01,
TAPKVL01, KVLCMPROOM, GRTCMPROOM, IRONMTN, etc. And you can add the tapes
with ADDMLBBRM. And use various options in WRKMEDBRM and WRKMLMBRM to
move them from one location to the next. I don't know if you can flag a
tape as active. There are options to Expire a tape. And I don't know if
there's a way to flag the save date on the tape outside of the discussion
of the first paragraph.
You can give it a try, but you're going to be most of the way to your
solution by then. I suggest keep trucking forward.
