PowerHA (part of it) basically submits the external storage commands for you so that you don't have to know the DSCLI (for DS8k) or SSH (for v7k) commands.

How exactly does PowerHA Global Mirror interface with the SAN? I know there are command APIs that allow you to instigate flash copy from the IBM i, but I do not fully understand the role of PowerHA assuming SAN to SAN replication.

Then I think your after the PowerHA that uses SAN storage and relies on that to replicate the data, and allows for two systems you can switch
back and forth with. The SAN and Global Mirroring are the pricey
parts, but if you need them, worth it.

SAN to SAN replication without the need for IASP if at all possible.
I need localized HA with remote side continuous. I don't mind IASP
but was trying to see where the comparisons go as well as the price.

PowerHA is cheaper, but has the drawback of requiring iASPs.
