Getting in my way-back-machine, I recall using NJE to send spoolfiles directly to the mainframe using the SNDNETSPLF command.
Along with lots of other things I 've forgot the details other than you would need (to purchase) the 57xxCM1 utilities.

I also think the connection to the MF is APPC(at least it used to be.)

Maybe another option.....

You may be able to setup the MF as a LPR host. So then all you need to do is create an outq that "points" to the IP address of the MF.

You have lots of options.
