Bob,

You definitely want to use the latest I_BASE_01 DVD, which would be RS-710F. This will save you a few hours (maybe 1 to 2 depending on your machine) applying PTFs. That is the latest Resave of the LIC, which means more PTFs have been applied. Along with that, you want to use that B_BROUP1_01 RS710-10. This is a resave of the OS, and again will save you time, but MUST be used with the RS-710F I_BASE_01 DVD. If you are going to be doing this upgrade a few months from now, there would then be again another resave of the LIC when TR6 comes out. That is why you want to be ordering your media around the time you are doing the upgrade. Even if you have this version, it would only mean that putting on the PTFs will take a little longer. In either way, we have done quite a few upgrades with 710-F, and it is very stable.

Get the pre-Req PTFs on before you do the upgrade, or get to the latest PTFs on 6.1 before upgrading to 7.1.

Don't put two of the same DVDs into the image catalogue, just one for each, and the latest as discussed above.

If you are using JAVA, make sure you check your versions before going from 6.1 to 7.1.

Yes, I am loading the image catalog right now. I hope to do most of this upgrade remotely.

Both of my B_GROUP1_01 and B_GROUP2_02 discs also show RS 710-10. The only difference I see is the feature code referenced on the packing slip.

I don't know why IBM duplicates the disks, but I have seen it many
times.

Also - B_GROUP1_01 shows a RS 710-10 for it's version. All the other
disks show the same versions between the two sets. Only use one set.

Are you going to use an image catalog to do the update?

Bob,

I am going through the same thing. I have an original order of 7.1
media, and a respin of the the same thing. I have always seen
duplicate disks from IBM, usually I get double of >everything.

Does your I_BASE_01 disk show the following?:

IBM i
5770SS1 R01M00
Licensed Machine Code RS 710-F
I_BASE_01

The first set of disks I have the 710-B version, I believe this
refers
to the ReSave of 7.1 with the technology refresh already applied. I
believe that version F is the latest. At least that is >what was
sent
when I asked my VAR to order the ReSave of the install disks.

I am preparing for our 7.1 upgrade and going through the discs

I

received at the end of November, and I have what appears to be two

sets of the same thing:

The first set has:

I_Base_01

B_Group_01 thru 05

And the second set:

I_Base_01

B_Group_01 thru 02

The only difference I can see between these two sets of DVDs is on
the
packing lists:

For the B_Group DVDs, the first set shows on the packing list,
feature
code 5817 and the second is feature code 6284.

For the I_Base DVDs, the first packing list reads I_Base_01
licensed machine code, and the second one reads V7R1 Standard and
keyed media.
The both show feature code 5870. Other than that, the physical
DVDs themselves are labeled exactly the same.

Does anyone know what the difference is? Is it an error/duplicate

shipment? Or is the first set the base code, then the second set
licensed programs? If that's the case, do I load all of them into
the
same image catalog, or do I need two different image catalogs
then?

Please be gentle with me - it's been over 4 years since I did our
6.1

upgrade!

Thanks
