You're on the right trail. With POWER6 and POWER7 CECs you can get all the partitions to 'see' the DVD (and often tape too) easily. You don't actually swap it in the traditional sense.

You may have to come up with a different plan. Like copying from physical
media to virtual optical, move that to other lpar and then using that.
