RE: Verifying tapes - one last thing
I use a very small test file that I write on the tape first. That way,
I get a message that the little "inhibit write" switch on the tape - or
the virtual switch inside BRMS that does not allow you to write to some
unexpried tapes.
This test file is also saved as the very last thing on the tape.
Restoring either sequence number of this file back onto the system
verifies the tape.
In fact, anytime IBM does maintenance to the tape drive, a save and
restore of the test file is required in our S.O.P. before the CE is
allowed to leave the building.
