Chuck,

I believe that most DDS LF's restrictions have been lifted for 7.1
. Checking the 7.1 Memo to Users I found the following:

*6.4.10 SQE support of simple logical files*

SQE supports simple logical files in IBM i 7.1. SQE support of simple
logical files has the

following restrictions:

_ No SQE support of OmniFind using logical files.

_ No SQE support of multi-data space logical files.

_ No SQE support of logical files over a partition table.

_ SQE only supports read-only queries. There is no SQE support of insert,
update, or delete

using logical files.

The QAQQINI file option 'IGNORE_DERIVED_INDEX' continues to be supported. If

IGNORE_DERIVED_INDEX(*NO) is specified, and a select / omit logical file
exists based on

file of the simple logical file, then SQE does not process the query of the
simple logical file.

Also, in a somewhat old IBM Document (IBM Power Systems Performance
Capabilities Reference / IBM i operating system 7.1 / April August 2010) I
found the following:

*************
In DB2 for i on 7.1 SQE supports the ability to cost and use Select/Omit
(S/O) logical files and Sparse Indexes. The optimizer now has the ability
to compare/match DDS record selection in the S/O logical file to the Where
selection specified in the SQL statement. If the DDS record selection is a
superset of the Where selection for the SQL statement, then the S/O logical
file can be used to implement the query. The optimizer will perform
estimates over the selection predicates built into the S/O logical file.
SQE now offers the same level of support for S/O logical files as that of
CQE (Classic Query Engine).
*************
