Kent Milligan has published a nice article about the
*IGNORE_DERIVED_INDEX *option

As I see it (and, of course, I may be wrong interpreting this) the point is
that, when this option is set to *NO, as soon as SQL finds a derived key
LF for a particular table, it pass the whole request to the CQE. If set to
*YES, it ignores that particular LF and tries to use the SQE engine to
process the query.

FWIW, this option is supposed to be available since V5R3 (the release my
company's 520 is in), but I cannot find it in our system either...
