Yes, LAN Console is great when you don't have an HMC. I switched my Twinax over to it a year or two ago. I think it's "easy if you know what you're doing."

There have been many, many posts here about it. It involves control panel options 65+21, possibly changing Ethernet configuration (we had to swap our "normal" connection to another port to free the correct one for the console on our Power 5 520), and various other bits depending on your goals.
