Just a brief note. I installed TR5 this past Friday and didn't--
encounter any issues. I applied both the latest CUME, group & TR5 at
the same time using image catalogs. Everything went without a hitch.
I agree that IBM has made this process much easier than it was back in
the AS/400 days for which I am eternally grateful lol.

People are trying to assure others that loading on the latest cume,
AND,
SF99707 and then IPLing will get you TR5. And these are pretty sharp
people.
I still wonder why the cover letter for MF99005 says you have to apply
all
existing MF* PTFs permanently though. MF99005 is a delayed PTF so if
had the knowledge to automatically IPL the requisite times, why
doesn't it and
just drop this verbiage from the cover letter? Since it's not as if
you can apply MF99005 immediately (even if you had permanently applied
the other PTF's already).
And, yes, I've been putting on cumes for years now and I know IBM has
made
great strives in automatically IPLing during PTF installation. I
still bear scars from the early years, back on AS400's.

I've been following this topic with interest. We are planning to
install the V7R1 cumulative and other PTF's over Thanksgiving weekend.
It appears now that I don't have to do anything special for TR5.
