*Hardware,*
You buy a chassis that has a V7000 SAN, Networking HW and some other things
like the Flex System Manager ( souped up HMC ). Now you buy Compute Nodes.
There is room for 14 half width or 7 full width or combo to match your
needs. Think of these nodes like blades but horizonal and bigger overall.
You can buy x86 based that will run Windows or Linux, Linux Only( Power7
based I think ) and then Power7 that will run IBM i, AIX and I think
Linux. This all fits a 19inch Rack and only 10U's.

*Applications*
Then there is the PureApplication System which can in clude the HW but is
more focused on providing Preconfigured near ready to run applications.
Like go the website ( app store ), tell it what you want, like say some SAP
product. It sown loads and does the base install for you. The FlexSystem
Manager can create snap-shots of an app or environment that it can the
clone to make new environments.

Sounds like a lot of great tools for managing the HW, Applications and all
the OS's etc. 2 comments I heard at a recent presentation. I thingk the
number was you really needed to at least 3 or 4 Compute Nodes to make the
cost acceptable. Base System starts around $250K

You really need to be a shop/business that needs lots of servers (
physical/virtual ).

The amount of buzz words on one page is amazing.

I read several web pages and still had no idea of just
what the hell they were selling.

I guess it's pretty hard to make Unix/Linux/ and the letter "I" sound
exciting.

Has anyone had a chance to work on any of these new type(s) of systems, I
believe they only use VIOS/SAN..
