At this point I don't really have a budget, other than to use my time. Maybe in time, however, so I'll keep these links.
We do have Manta that the person can thankfully use, unfortunately it doesn't run on the browsers on my computer.

Ancient book "Application Programming by Example". My copy was for V1R2.
A few things have changed since then. But it did a nice job of introducing a lot of concepts. For example, starting out in SEU to create some DDS to create a table to work with, accessing it with RPG, adding a screen, building on from there. Those kind of stepping stones.

Used to have a large library of ATS courses that started out a few of our people.

A lot of people seem to favor the books written by Bob Cozzi. I have an older 2nd edition left here by a former coworker. I've not used it.
