You are right, of course. When I wrote about jar/ajar being "easier to use"
I was thinking of them, as you say, being already on the system. I'm afraid
that sometimes I assume or take for granted things or expressions that I
should not...
Regarding jar/ajar being slower than other solutions, you have a point
there. I don't use them very much on a large number of files, so the
performance is not a very pressing issue for our system (an old i5/520,
running V5R3). The OP has a large number of files, so maybe he should check
the InfoZip/7-Zip options (unless, of course that this is just one time
requirement).
