Hopefully you have that set up on a Domain Name Server (aka DNS). To test
that get to a command line on the PC and try
nslookup qs1015362a
When I look up one of my lpars I am getting
C:\Users\ROB>nslookup gdihq
Server: gdsdns.dekko-1
Address: 10.10.4.250
Name: gdihq.dekko-1
Address: 10.17.6.33
This tells me the name/address of one of our dns' is gdsdns and it's at
10.10.4.250. nslookup is browsing that dns to see that gdihq points to
10.17.6.33
A few possible errors come to mind.
- nslookup doesn't find any dns servers. Contract with a consultant to
set up a couple. Good to have fail over.
- same. You have a dns server but your pc isn't set up to use them. Have
consultant fix your PC. Might be some Windows domain work.
- nslookup finds a dns but that name is not registered at that dns. Fix
that by registering it or ensuring that really is the name you should know
it as.
If nslookup doesn't work but ping qs1015362a does then you have a host
table entry. Stop doing that and use a DNS.
Now go to your i and type in DSPNETA.
What do you have for:
Current system name . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : GDISYS
Pending system name . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
Local network ID . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : GDI1
Network server domain . . . . . . . . . . . . . : GDISYS
What do you have in iNav for Network, Servers, TCP/IP, right click i5/OS
Netserver and select Properties - what's in server name? Does all this
stuff match qs1015362a?
