Other than a posting in 2008, has anyone else had this?
This machine IPLs unattended every Sat night without fail, except
this Sat.
PWRDWNSYS option(*IMMED) restart(*Yes)
It's an E4A in a tower (not rack). Has the IBM UPS (from Eaton?)
DSPLOG shows no entry after QSYSARB3 ended (when seems a normal end).
IBM had them press button to ipl.
No mention of a src code.
Next entry in log is the ipl after IBM was called.
Did a normal startup.
Any ideas?
Anytime after the system came up, but before another PWRDWN or IPL,
what is\was the value of QIPLSTS? The QABNORMSW system value similarly
might be of interest; i.e. if on, then the system presumably had failed
with an SRC, whether one was noted or not.
Was the mention of "a posting in 2008" actually meant to refer to a
thread from 2009 where the OP, not IBM, suggested to press the "power
switch\button" to power up the system when the power light\indicator was
slowly flashing [indicating that the system was powered off, for which
there would be no SRC]? i.e.:
_i PWRDWNSYS RESTART(*YES) didn't restart] , Terrence Enger i_
http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/200907/threads.html#00927
In my experience, when the IPL after a PWRDWNSYS RESTART(*YES) did
not complete, there was either a System Reference Code (SRC) or the IPL
almost always had been started in manual mode for which the person with
access to the physical system was more likely to misinterpret the status
of the system and\or console; e.g. things like a dual-address twinax
console showing the device for the alternate address instead of the
console, which sometimes confused some even for a Normal\automatic-mode IPL.
In the above noted message thread, Lukas suggested a [low] battery
power issue with the UPS could cause the system to power off versus
restart; QPWRRSTIPL might be relevant.? A later startup could have been
enabled either after more charging or the condition might be overlooked
for a physical start [i.e. button] versus a restart.?
