We just upgrade hardware from a power 6 to a power 7. In the process we moved from an Ultrium 2 and Ultrium 4 tape drives to an Ultrium 5 tape drive.
We ensured that all of our critical data was available on Ultrium 4 tapes and that we would lose nothing when we got rid of the Ultrium 2 drive.

....You can see what's coming....

An old Ultrium 2 tape has surfaced that we absolutely need to read, but we no longer have the hardware to read it.
The tape is a save tape from V6R1. We attempted to restore it at another company who has an Ultrium 4 drive , however they are at V5R4 - we were unable to restore the data to a prior release.
We found another company that has V6R1 and Ultrium 4, but they are unable to help us as they say we will mess up their BRMS system (I do not understand this, they are willing to help but they say restoring a tape that is not part of their catalogue will mess them up) So we thanked them and moved on. We are getting ready to ship our tape out to be processed by IBM.

So I am just looking for some feedback from the list.

Amy help is appreciated.
