Why not just archive and remove them as they are used? I realize
that, since it's a package, it's probably not possible to modify the
package per se, but many vendors provide hooks for user apps.
Alternatively, could you change the file to *NoMax and clean it up as
part of a nightly save or some such maintenance cycle?

The reason I'm asking is that we have an EDI file that fills up to max
members every so often (3rd party package), and things go south real
quick when that happens. I'd like to write a monitor that will report
when the file is nearing capacity, giving us a chance to archive and
cleanup before we run into issues.
