Alan,

The gigs are out there. I get a dozen calls and e-mails a week from recruiters (mostly Indians whom I cannot understand). Most of these are in California or New England, too far from home for me to consider.

At present I cannot accept any work. I am recovering from surgery and cannot walk or drive and cannot leave the house for work. My last gig was remote but they are hard to find. As there is no work in Montgomery, I must go where there is work. I should be able to start looking by May.

But this remains the weirdest market I have ever seen. There is nobody available but there are no jobs. You would think if there were a storage of programmers you would have a lot of companies looking or vis versa. A lot of programmers would mean no jobs. Instead there is a storage of programmers but still no jobs available.

We have companies here looking for months and into years but you almost never see jobs.
