Some things (text) in IPDS can be copied - not the graphic stuff. We had a customer who had a signature in an IPDS spooled file - that got lost when doing the copy but the rest showed up. Formatting with graphical elements would not, of course.

At least that's my recollection - and why I said try it and see if you get anything useful. IBM has the article recreating a spooled file with CPYSPLF, and there they have the following -

"however, this does not work on *AFPDS or *USERASCII spooled files and may not work on *IPDS spooled files"

It's not a slammed door for IPDS, but chances are something will not be copied the way you want.

If I remember, an IPDS can be copied to a physical file - it has SCS
ontent plus graphical stuff. I think.
So give CPYSPLF a try - if you get something, check the PF to make sure
t's everything - an image of a signature would not come through, for
xample.
Then use the technique found in an IBM knowledge base for overriding
omething like QPRINT, then copying the PF into QPRINT - when you
PYSPLF, be sure to copy it with *FCFC format codes (I hope I have the
erms right - I'm doing this from a steadily non-linear memory bank!).
In the OVRPRTF of QPRINT, be sure to specify *SCS.

Hi Folks, I've got a splf created w/devtype=IPDS when it should have been SCS
nd now I can't get the the splf to print. When I release the splf it goes to
LD and gives me CPI400F, Writer can not process file. Any idea what I can do
o get the splf printed? I thought I'd try to drag the splf to my desktop (via
Nav) and then drop it back to a prtf w/SCS attributes but that doesn't work.
oes anyone have a way to get the splf to print?
Thanks, Frank
