Hi Nathan,
there are several feature numbers:

- 7210 external drive
- 4530 same drive internal for up to POWER4 boxes
- 5762 internal slimline starting with POWER5

Note: you can NOT write CD-ROM media with a DVD RAM drive
(thus you need to go the hard way as written in http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/books/c4153103.pdf
or
http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/management/storage/optical_vol.html

The advantage of DVD RAM media is:
- 4.7GB capacity (ok, not much in our times)
- usable with SAV, SAVLIB, SAVOBJ, SAVSYS etc commands
- you can do a GO SAVE,21 onto DVD-RAM and boot from this

best regards,
Holger

Maybe you can get your hands on an iseries dvd ram drive which cam be
used for a savsys directly. Works great.

Sounds interesting. Do you have a web reference? What is a DVD RAM drive?
