Update:

With the assistance of a retired IBM'er who works part time for a local BP,
I was able to hand off the project to him, since I absolutely had to get
back home for a commitment on Sunday.

1. We never got past the C6000432A message.

2. We never go past the link loader error.

3. We configured a PC as the LAN Console, plugged into the T5 port on the
back side.

4. We used 2 different LIC CD's and kept getting a B7005122 message
indicating a missing load source.

5. When we popped out the first CD to try the second, the first disk kept
spinning at full speed. It quit after about 20 seconds. The same happened
with the second disc.

6. The IBM'er and I just looked at each other, because neither of us had
seen that happen before.

7. I called Dr. Franken and told him about the spinner, and he laughed.

8. I had to bail for the airport at that time, so the IBM'er and the
customer decided to wait for IBM on Monday (today).

9. The IBM'er was scheduled for a hardware upgrade yesterday, and he spotted
an unused machine in the corner. Since the part numbers were identical, he
go that customer to agree to let him borrow the DVD drive.

10. The IBM'er hooked up with my customer last evening, replaced the DVD
drive, and Bingo, the load source from the LIC disc was found.

11. He was able to get the LAN Console config completed, slip the LIC, and
get the customer back in business.

Moral of the story - Never, ever let your maintenance agreements expire on a
machine you're going to keep in production.

If any of you are interested in some of those old white box expansion racks,
this customer still has 3 of them available for the taking. You can pick
them up in Tulsa. One has a reel to reel tape drive in it, and the others
contain disk drives.

As Roberto suggests, you may want to review the requirements for setting
up LAN console on the information center.

Suggestion: Since this location does not seem to be all that concerned
with security, you might suggest very simple passwords for the LAN
Console device etc, and make all the passwords the same, that way you
only have one to remember. They can always make it more secure later.

Just a silly question but you do have the QSECOFR profile password for
DST, right? If not you may be in for a real bad time.

To answer your question directly, I would change your plans. ( the
tavern is gonna come after the fun )

No, that thinclient thingie was just a lan console, not an HMC.
You have to use the 65+21 functions to re-configure the lan console
and use a new pc to do it.
Power5 onwards have lan console built in. In this case, T5, the first
ethernet port can be used (you can use ANY port, but let's go with the
simple stuff).
I can't answer on the error codes 'cause i dont have the time right
now to look em up, but the C one is a temporary code, until it gets to
B or A, it's working, give it time.
