We are on v6r1m0. I am planning weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly saves
all to tape as well that will put our backups in 4 locations. I was poking
around doing a CL for batching the FTP process but I am not sure how to
handle the variable file names (e.g. Mondays tape has a different name than
Tuesdays tape) among other questions lol.

What version of the OS do you have? With 7.1 you can install the OS
from an NFS mount, however I think your NFS source has to be another i.
:-(
With that being the case I would probably still make my full system
saves be to physical tape, or to at least DUPTAP to physical media.
Personally, I've not done a whole lot of NFS mounting.

Subject: Virtual Tape Process
Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi Everyone,
We are investigating using virtual tapes for our backups and I am
wondering
what the best method would be to transfer the data off the box once the
backup is complete. I was initially thinking of a tape for each day of
the
week and then FTP'ing the file to our SAN/NAS device and from there it
will
be replicated offsite to a datacenter. (This step appears to be
necessary
because I can't mount the image catalog on an NFS mount.) I know I can
FTP
the files I have tested that but I am wondering if there is a better
way.
Since I am a mere fledgling iseries admin I am turning to the experts.
What
would be the best approach for this? TIA...
