First: I agree with Pete and Luis, it is stealing.

Second: What seems to be misunderstood is that you do not purchase IBM i, you license it. The license is for the licensee (that being the person that paid money to IBM). Most of these licenses are not transferable so when you buy hardware of Ebay etc you are buying, well, hardware. There are some situations where you got 'base licenses' transferred with the machine but those never went past the operating system. No compilers, no editors, no BRMS, AJS, Performance tools, IBM i Access, etc etc.

Third: (And very important) When you install that operating system every 70 days, you must agree to the license agreement to install the O/S. By pressing the "I Accept" button and then continuing the install you are stealing.

Some of us have invested VERY significant amounts of money and time to make available the Current OS levels (IBM i 5.4, 6.1, 7.1) a very reasonable cost to learn, try, study and all without having to break IBM's agreements. You also don't have to own your own or machine or search the world for .isos to which you are not entitled.

If you saw this thread history, it all began as a (seemingly) innocuous
request from Mr. "Bob Smith" for iso images and it ended with a unsigned
tirade from the same (now anonymous?) poster against the US and its trading
practices.

These lists are made of (and for) midrange professionals. As much as many
of us would like to have our own toys to play with, there are enough
resources out there (paid or not) to exercise our skills. We don't need (I
think) these kind of posters here.


I don't usually respond to these type of posts (non-technical), and I
apologize if the last paragraph is a little harsh, but his attitude really
got me.
