The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

RGZPFM on files that have gotten out of hand. We have a home-grown routine that can select by % deleted records or size of deleted space. We use MIMIX, and their 'live' reorganize is useful-- we kick it off on a Saturday morning and by 6 PM we can have it put the cleaned files into place. This does require 'extra' space for both the original and cleaned copies. Some files are used on both of our machines, so there's a choreographed manual reorganize we perform for those files.
We do reuse deleted records where possible, but this does not prevent excess deleted records, so these files are reviewed for RGZPFM as well.
Check for journal receivers that have not been purged.
Yell at the programmers to bring out their dead files.
We allow users to run AS/400 Query. We have a routine that clears any outfiles they may have created if they haven't been touched in 2 days. The empty file is deleted in 90 days. Unused query definitions are archived, saved, then deleted after 13 months (to allow for those once-a-year queries).
Some (not enough) of our applications purge ancient data each month. We have a data area that holds the name of the library where the purged data is dumped, saved, then cleared (after at least 90 days). The data area is automatically changed to include the month and year in the library name.
We IPL each system monthly and backup some libraries that always have some objects in use.
PTFs as needed, usually pre-loaded so that the monthly IPL is just longer than normal.
