My customer currently has a call open with IBM and this appears to be
the path they are headed down.
Then Mike wrote:
We are experiencing the same issue; "Not enough storage is available to
complete this operation". This occurs only with a QDLS share. We are
at V6R1.
I don't a clue as to why this is occurring. A PC reboot seems to solve
the issue, but only temporarily.
TIA for help from anyone.
Evan, Mike -
I have not used QDLS folders for many, many years. I strongly recommend
using regular IFS folders instead.
Scott Klement's opinion on using QDLS [from 2008]:
http://forums.systeminetwork.com/isnetforums/showthread.php?t=51506
"...I wouldn't call QDLS a swear word -- but it's a legacy of our heritage.
It's something that is required to maintain backward compatibility on our
system, because it's a tool that made sense back in the 1980's, and our
platform has always wanted to maintain compatibility with code from those
days.
IBM has said on several occasions that QDLS is "deprecated". It's considered
a legacy of the S/38, and not considered a modern way of doing things.
So these days, whenever I see someone using QDLS, I wonder why! Sometimes I
think people use tools like QDLS because they don't know about the other
alternatives. After all, if you knew of the alternatives, why would you pick
QDLS? So I want to present my case for QDLS being a poor choice.
Facts about QDLS:
It's slower than the other alternatives.
It's limited to 8.3 filenames that have not been used in the rest of the
industry since MS-DOS was discontinued in 1995.
It has a very bizarre security model, and requires a directory entry.
It's not thread safe.
