Well, maybe not useless, but surely not as useful. At least you can get
more than one drive to fail before you lose the whole raid set. (Or,
since you are running RAID6, more than two drives to fail before you lose
the whole raid set.)
Is there someway to migrate the data from D9 to D10 and then make D9 your
hot spare? Or can you only migrate some of the data but a little
dedicated time is still required to finish the job?
You can try submitting a DCR to get them to remove this restriction.
