Regarding STATUS, _I'm_ interested in it, don't know about anyone else.

The way it was explained to me is that everyone does have their own OS and
all.  There is some profile data stored somewhere.  Let's say you have a
130 users.  And you have 100 virtual sessions set up.  The user gets one
available session and then it gets their profile data and they are off and
running.  You can even set up virtual sessions by group.  Like this group
gets Office, this one gets ... .  You can set it up so that someone always
gets their same one, but I think it was like a very mini group.  You can
have a user with capabilities to log into different groups and they will
get prompted.  If only one it will bypass that prompt.

Maybe I should just have my boss do a presentation at STATUS.  What do you
think Jeff?

I asked some questions about why move from Citrix.  Like is this stuff
just better because our version of Citrix is too old and we haven't
upgraded?  Like those people who complain that OS/400 is missing this and
that but if they had upgraded to i they would have most if not all of
that.  The answer I got was that yes we are on an old version of Citrix
but Citrix has a couple of different products like this and even the
current one at our level wouldn't do what we wanted.  The super dooper
product would do most of what we want.  One advantage of Citrix's top of
the line is that it is completely clientless, not even the "download this
little thingy from the browser" part.  That would help for the person who
is on the road with no machine and stops into a local library or whatever
and cannot even download that.  We're crossing our fingers that the Vmware
due out in August has that.

Very aggressive schedule here.

When you say "Virtual Desktop", are you referring to:  a) each user
has his/her own virtual PC instance (complete with their own copy of
the OS), or b) an RDP/Citrix type connection to a server where they're
all users under the same copy of the OS?

I note you have Virtual Desktop capitalized, so maybe I'm wrong on both
counts.

We're replacing all of our Citrix workstations with new Wyse units to
connect using Virtual Desktop.  When they are done then we will start
replacing many existing PC's with them.  I would suspect new PC's will
be
hard pressed to justify something other than the new solution.  I am
barely on the fringe of that project.  Boss has ordered a couple of
hundred of them.  They're rolling in now.  They'll be running Notes,
System i Access, Office, etc.  I'll let you know how that works.
