Alot of times the port number is the key thing that needs changed with a
new type of IP printer. We had good results when testing a Savin MFP
setup, but stuck with an Infoprint MFP (and are still stuck with the
horrible hardware service).

Hi John,
The IBM web site
http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.NSF/acf2ee1e9d64b16e8625680b00020389/82b3f6758038aef5862569c1007aaea7?OpenDocument
says to define it as either *RICOHMP5000 or *HP5SI. All drivers (PJL, SNMP,
IPP)
are supposed to be supported.
Where the same IP Address was used for the new device, the i/OS ARP cache
needs
to update itself so that it knows that the MAC Address for the Savin NIC
should
now be the hardware component hosting the IP Address.
If you can ping the Savin successfully from the System i, you should be
able to
get the device description to work as long as you have selected a
compatible
manufacturer type and model.
Best Regards,
/Paul

subject: Savin 9228
Being out of loop is not fun. I was told that a Xerox printer was to be
used
in this area. Had a device description created, and it worked. Then, it
didn't. Found out that the
Xerox had been replaced with a Savin 9228. Same IP address.
I did a Google search, and saw that the 9228 is supported. What I don't
know
is whether it is supported at v5r4. I have tried *NETSTNDRV, *HPPJLDRV,
*IBMSNMPDRV,
*IBMPJLDRV, and *IBMIPPDRV.
When I try to start the writer, the writer ends immediately. Job log
only says
"An internal program error has occurred.".
Do I have to change anything else when changing the driver program? Is
this
device not supported at v5r4? I wish we we current on the os. But, in a
little
over a year,
this system gets scrapped. Replaced with a network link to an unknown
system,
far away.
I have not tried remote output queue yet. I had hoped to get away from
that.
I appreciate any thoughts.
