Another option, used at my location, is to use VBA in an Excel workbook to
connect to the i and update data in the workbook.

Using this approach, the user controls when data is re-freshed.

There is an MC Press book by Chris Peters and Brian Singleton: i5/OS and
Microsoft Office that is helpful
