Another possibility is they are migrating the IBM LPPs from the old system.
Depending on your starting HW and Target System, there are 2 possible ways
to do this. It's either a true Upgrade where you keep the serial number and
get some kind of credit if you will for the old HW. The other is a Box Swap.
In this case you would get a new serial number and a new copy of the OS. We
would then Migrate the IBM LPPs to the new system. Unless you are going Up a
P-Group most of these will come across as No-Charge.

Now there are many factors that will influence the final out come, but that
is a 30,000ft level

I would also get a 2nd proposal fro another BP and see what they come up
with. There are several of us BP's on the list and I'm sure anyone of us
would be glad to assist.

Thanks, Rob. I've been traversing the links below and the links within and

information there, but nothing that brings it together. Wish I had access
to the Configurator (or is something else these days?).

There are others more knowledgeable than I on this but perhaps the tools
were part of a bundle?

Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx

We are looking at purchasing/leasing a Power 7 with 7.1 installed. I am
having trouble understanding the software charges and needs shown by the
BP.
For example, the list I received this morning showed the ILE and Heritage
compilers (57xx-WDS) as no charge and similar things that did not seem
right.

Is there a link anywhere that lists all of the IBM software available on
7.1
and which either shows the charges or itself has links to other pages that
do? Something that would help me alleviate my own confusion.

Also, the original proposal included PowerVM express. I have decided to
not
do LPARs on the system so, do I need that? Would it offer me or the
company
any advantage(s)?

Thanks.
