Without knowing all the details, a good guess would be that this BP is
migrating the LPP software from your current machine to this machine, and
since you already paid for 57xx-WDS on the current machine, you won't need
to purchase (One time charge) this again. A guess, but I think a safe bet.
You spent more time (and money) writing the email and then reading my
response on PowerVM than it cost. I can't remember the actual price for a
single core, but I was thinking about 300 off the top of my head. Get it,
because at some point in time you may decide to do Virtual LPARS (Come see
my session at COMMON) and then all you would need is an HMC (which you can
pick up pretty cheaply if you don't have the pop-up display). These Virtual
LPARs are so cool, and also easy to create. I have been making small
development environments for all my Power6/Power7 customers on V6R1 & V7R1
and they just love the functionality that it brings, as well as the safety
of having development in another partition.

We are looking at purchasing/leasing a Power 7 with 7.1 installed. I am
having trouble understanding the software charges and needs shown by the BP.
For example, the list I received this morning showed the ILE and Heritage
compilers (57xx-WDS) as no charge and similar things that did not seem
right.
Is there a link anywhere that lists all of the IBM software available on 7.1
and which either shows the charges or itself has links to other pages that
do? Something that would help me alleviate my own confusion.
Also, the original proposal included PowerVM express. I have decided to not
do LPARs on the system so, do I need that? Would it offer me or the company
any advantage(s)?
