Rob is correct. The 'Twinax' issue is the lack of IOP support in ANY slot on a POWER7 server. Since twinax requires an IOP you can't use it in POWER7. You also cannot put a twinax card in any POWER6 System unit, you must add an HSL I/O loop and tower so that you can install an IOP and thus support Twinax. That's a lot of money to spend to support old devices unless you already have all that hardware.

Correct also that HMC Software will only load on an IBM machine with appropriate MT and SN.

You cannot just load HMC software on another device. You have to use the
dedicated device. It's a heavily customized version of Linux. I am sure
that it also has some burned in bios or some such thing.
