Jack, Rob, DrFranken, thanks for input :)
I can see what I did wrong now I think:
- D-IPLd from the correct CD
- flagged the tape as alternative boot device
- went back to the very menu I hit 3 in and did an install LIC
I shouldn't have done the last step, right? Since the box doesn't boot
anymore :) I should have D-IPLd again without a CD in the optical
drive, right?
(As you may easily spot I'm a pc unix guy who has a bios or uefi ;) )
Thanks, br, Rolf

Must be same release that much is true. Same resave is not required.

Hm, is it required that if you are going to install 7.1 from your save
tape that you use a 7.1 CD as your alternate IPL device?  Could 7.1 use
6.1 (or vice versa)?  Or, is it so restricted that not only do you need
the same release, but you should use the same resave level?  After all,
you are not going to restore one single object from that CD - it is used
only to IPL from.  I would think the biggest concern would first be that
it be at a level compatible with your hardware.  Just read something from
a Pete M. newsletter that a small part is restored from the CD, so maybe
the same release is required.  If you can't find your CD they claim to be
able to help you.
