We had our HMC on a KVM with 15 or so other servers for a year and it
was a nightmare. The keyboard mapping was such that half the time the
numpad keys wouldn't work and the actual top row number keys wouldn't
work either at the same time.

Then we upgraded to a 8203-E4A and I had a slide-out HMC console rolled
into the project and it is sweet! No problems VPNing in from home to
get a 5250 console session.

If you're running a six figure server, you should get a worthy console.

I don't know of a reason to need a KVM.

I do. And since he'll be running it offsite in a hardened shelter with
limited or no access I think you'll get total agreement from Larry.
