Jack,
The good news is that performing a full power down and IPL cured
the problem. The bad news is that I would have like to have gotten
this fixed without having to resort to a re-boot. Too bad I didn't
have Rob's solution before me before taking the easy way out.

Already deleted and rebuilt the tape drive description. I'mto
trying a full
power down cycle to see if that resets what needs resetting. I tried
vary on with a reset option, but that did not work either.--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello list,
I have a new E4A system with a 4mm tape drive. I was just trying to
initialize a new tape when the drive went south on me. I deleted the
tape
description and created it from scratch, but it will not vary on now.
I'm getting a CPD2616 error (device will not vary on) with reason
00003404 which just says that an error occurred during the vary onis. I
process. It says to check that the device is powered on, which it
am able to manually remove the tape cartridge and re-insert it justfine.

Any ideas on where to go with this?
Seems kind of silly that it would throw up like this on a simple
command.list
