The 520 is our Production box.  Shouldn't we get the POWER7 in and do the
upgrade on that so we can test and not have the upgrade affect our business?

Since the 520 supports 7.1, I'd upgrade to 7.1 then move to the POWER7.

We're moving from an I520 with about 800 profiles.  I believe that they are
looking at a POWER7 720 8202-E4B.

7.1 is best bet. Some models and features require 7.1 with Technology
Refresh 1. Check target hardware's software requirements!

Honestly if you can get to 6.1 then 7.1 is likely no issue at all. Talk
to your ISVs of course but most of them are good to go and have been for
quite some time.

You'll want to pay attention to user counts so you don't buy too many,
also IBM i License count (yes even on the 'Teeny' systems) and which
compilers you really need. You can buy a lot of things you no longer
need OR get stuck without stuff you DO need.

If we knew what size system you have and are looking at we could do a
better job on questions regarding hardware.

which
OS to go to.  We're at V5R4M0, do we go to 6.1 or make the leap to 7.1?

Also what questions should we be asking our reseller?
