So, did IBM just tighten up the rules a bit on the INSERT?

That wouldn't surprise me a bit. We had to tighten up some of our SQL procedure
interfaces between V5R4 and V6R1 to be precisely inline with IBM documentation.

I've run out of ideas.

That's hard to believe. You're usually a fountain of ideas ;-)

When some of our code broke, moving to V6R1, it annoyed me at first. Then I
realized that I was in no position to complain about it. If you can't count on
having numeric data in a numeric field, should you change it to character?
Something like that?
