Paul, I would like to suggest to You and anyone else to keep there HMC and
Server Firmware pretty much up to date. It was pretty much an all day
process with all the reboots and steps required since the HMC was so far
back. The server Firmware was pretty close for some reason, but it was
disruptive so a downtime was needed. Had things been reasonably current,
then maybe 2 hours to none at all at the time uf the migration.

Thanks Again

Thanks Kirk,

Yep, unfortunately I missed the certs when doing the FTP.

Sorry about that but great to see that you were able to get the fixes from
IBM.

And that's a good explanation for others needing these downloads.

We'll be going to IBM i V7 early next year and will most probably do the
HMC
upgrades then.

Cheers
Paul

Acutally no, One or more were missing a cert file. I do appreciate your
effort to get me what you did. The good news is that they are available
online. I was too fixed on using the pull downs and didn't read the whole
screen :( A call to IBM showed me the error of my ways AND saved me
several
hours doing the upgrade. Turns out with these PTFs and a new how to doc
from IBM you can upgrade directly from 6.1.3 ( with several small PTFs on
the HMC ) Directly to 7.7.2.0 without stopping at 7.3.4.0 along the way.

So where are the V6 HNC PTFs? For the records...

Fix Central
Product Group = System i
Product = Firmware and HMC
Processor type = Power5 and Power6 class
Machine Type - Model = 9406-520 ( which the current machine is )
HMC Firmware. Obtain HMC Recovery images, service packs, and specific
fixes.

Where I can pick 7.3.1-7.3.5 and 7.7.1 and 7.7.2 from the pull downs

Now Look to right side of the page at the botton of the Top Box and you
will
see a link to
V6 and eariler HMC code and additional information
http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/sas/f/hmcl/home.html

It always amazes me how small the physical world as become with the
Internet.

Thanks again

Hi Kirk,
Put the images in relevant fix directories.

Hope these are all usable.

Let me know if there's an issue.

Kirk,
Did you manage to find the images at IBM following Larry's

Maybe it's not really as good as it seems. I also got told they
couldn't
find the files:

Fair chance that you made an unintentional 'err' when selecting

The HMC itself is the correct model, but it is running 6.1.3
code.
I
need to
get it up to 7.7.2. Per IBM's doc on going from 6.1.3 to
7.7.2
I
need
to...
#1 Apply MH01082, MH01110 and MH01128
#2 Apply MH011027
#3 Upgrade to 7.3.4.0 via Recovery Media
#4 Upgrade to 7.7.2.0 via Recovery Media

Here's the rub, it appears Fix Central doesn't know that any
HMC
release
prior to V7 Exists. I can't Order/Download the 4 MHxxxxx
fixes
I
need
and I
need these Tuesday. Anyone have access to these? I'll try
IBM
tomorrow,
but I not very confident I will be able to get them from IBM
on
this
short
notice.
Thanks in Advance
