This was added by PTF in 6.1, so really 7.1 is not different than 6.1 with
PTFs.
It's in the memo to users because it was different than what is shipped
originally with 6.1.

Question:
The V7R1 memo to users says:
"GO SAVE, GO RESTORE, GO LICPGM changes
In IBM i 7.1, the GO SAVE (options 21-23, 40), GO RESTORE (options 21-23,
40), and GO LICPGM
(option 40) menus were enhanced to end TCP before ending the subsystems.
Commands that are issued
as part of these options are:
v End TCP/IP Server (ENDTCPSVR)
v End Host Server (ENDHOSTSVR)
v End TCP/IP (ENDTCP)
To allow time for these commands to process, two Delay Job (DLYJOB)
commands
are issued. A total of
10 minutes delay is added before the End Subsystem (ENDSBS) command is
issued."
This means V7R1 is different than V6R1 in this regard. Do you know on V7R1
where in the above sequence those 2 DLYJOB commands are? I have V7R1 on
order, but I may as well incorporate the same delays in my own CL
endsys-type program right now.
Thanks.

Then again, people tend to blow off the Memo to Users and think that IBM
really doesn't mean what I think they said. Like, the section "ENDTCP

Which, if you do NOT use any telnet (like any 5250 sessions from a PC or

IBM recommends that you do an ENDTCP prior to running ENDSBS *ALL to get
into restricted state. And waiting 10 minutes in between (see links
for more details). Otherwise you can get the message in QSYSOPR that
system is ended to restricted state and it NOT be. And TCP may be rather
messed up. Been there, done that. This started in 6.1 I believe.

There was a bug in V6R1 with some of the TCP/IP servers not ending. I
think
it was *Eclipse and *IBMHELP, so IBM came out with a PTF, because when
these
servers didn't end (even going into a restricted state) there were locks
that the SAV couldn't handle, and objects not getting backed up.
This was fixed in a PTF, and not sure if it is one and the same. Get the
latest cumulative, Hipers, and Backup/Recovery groups on your machine.

We have had mult times the SAV gets stuck.
This is a V6r1 (not r1.1) with internal Ultrium drive.
No error msg.
IBM has replaced drive last week.
Today same issue - Save System gets stuck in SAV.
Ops noticed it is in same are of "saved xx,xxx"...
No error msg - just goes to sleep.
so I am thinking maybe damaged object and preparing to rclstg.
Power light still on for drive.
Note: we used to think this was user w/Word and an open doc
in their ifs /home directory.
This was save system before applying latest cume.
This is SAV without save active.
Anyone else have this issue?
