SQL tables with long names are implemented as a physical file object
in a library just like a DDS created PF.

The system generates a short name for the object. Same goes for
columns with long names.

However, you can assigned a short name for column when the table is
created. In the example below, MYFLD1 and MYFLD2 are the short names
for the columns.

CREATE TABLE MyLibrary/My_Long_Table_Name (
My_long_field_Name_1 FOR myfld1 CHAR(10),
My_long_field_Name_2 FOR myfld2 CHAR(20)
)

After a long named table is created, you can rename just the short
"system" name for it.

RENAME TABLE MyLibrary/My_Long_Table_Name
TO SYSTEM NAME mytable

Lastly, true "MixedCased" naming requires quotes, stay away from that.
Without quotes the name is case insensitive.

I gather that is is possible to have SQL database object names on the
System i that are longer than 10 characters and mixed case.  This could
be SQL tables, views, triggers, etc.  I just can't see where they would
be used or stored.  Perhaps in the IFS?

Has anyone actually used these long names, and if so, could you give me
an example?  (Not the actual SQL code, but just a sample name, where you
would store in on the system, and what type of application would use it.)

Thanks.
